Wagga retailers set for shopping spree

AS RETAILERS this morning ready themselves for one of the busiest days of the year, one Wagga resident has already made the most of the Boxing Day Ray Ban Outlet sales.

Getting up at 2.30am Ray Ban Outlet yesterday to make the trip to Sydney from her holiday on the coast, Nardia Pinto was among the first shoppers through the doors when Myer and David Jones opened for business at 4.50am.

Like Ms Pinto, thousands of residents are expected to flock to Wagga stores today as the sales kick off from 7am when Myer rings in its annual Boxing Day sale.

The Australian Retailers Association has dubbed this year's post Christmas sales as the return to "old style big spending" with shoppers expected to spend $14 billion nationwide.

Wagga shoppers keen to bag themselves a bargain won't have to look far, with Thomas Jewellers slashing selected lines by up to 80 per cent.

Technology specialists looking to buy up big on the latest stock will find all they're after from 8am at The Good Guys, with digital cameras from $39 and blu ray players from $88.

Ms Pinto had hinted that the lure of the Boxing Day sales was more exciting than Christmas and after a successful morning shopping, cashing in on the brands and clothing that aren't stocked in Wagga, the trip didn't fail to deliver.

Despite this year being her maiden trip to the first day of the Boxing Day Ray Ban Outlet Online sales in Sydney, Ms Pinto said she was surprised by how quiet and subdued shoppers were a stark contrast to the footage shown by news programs of shoppers madly barging through the doors of department stores and queuing for blocks outside speciality stores.

"I was expecting trampling and heaps of people," she said.

"(But) it was so nice to shop."

With the shopping done, Ms Pinto was back on the road to home by 11am, exhausted Ray Ban Outlet Online right before droves of mainstream shoppers began filtering through the city.

NSW Police Force's crime prevention spokesperson Helen Begg has advised shoppers to be careful and remain aware of their personal safety.

"By taking a few simple precautions you can significantly reduce the risk of falling victim to crimes including bag snatches or credit card skimming," she said.

She said shoppers should avoid carrying large sums of cash and pay for purchases with eftpos as much as possible.

When shopping, people should keep their bag and wallet under their arm or in front of them and never leave it unattended.
